TASK
Major tier 1 Japanese stamping company located in Mansfield, Ohio, USA, was awarded a contract to provide door sash stampings for an automobile manufacturer located in Marysville, Ohio, USA. The Tier-one manufacturer was looking to reduce the manual handling of finished parts and part racks.

SOLUTION
Finished parts are shuttled to a GÜDEL roboFlex gantry robot. The roboFlex robot places the parts into one of (8) two-tiered part racks. Two GÜDEL FP-6 3-axis area gantries are positioned on the side of the roboFlex gantry robot to exchange the full racks for empty racks. This system was further complicated by requiring that the part and tooling changeover be fully automatic and to operate at 24 strokes per minute (SPM)

SCOPE OF SUPPLY
GÜDEL provided a turnkey automation solution for an End of Line system consisting of two GÜDEL roboFlex gantry mounted robots with custom tooling and two FP-6 area gantries to exchange full racks with empty racks. The control system was is PC based system with Indramat drives and servo motors.

RESULT
The GÜDEL provided solution is easily monitored by one press operator and effortlessly places finished parts into the waiting racks. The rack exchange system provides increased press uptime, while reducing of fork truck traffic in the area around the stamping press bay, as well as reduced need for manpower.
