Robotic welding of locomotive engine housing with requirements for high precision, heavy weight capacity, large range of motion, and extended center of gravity.

SOLUTION
Locomotive engine housing is manually loaded into weld fixture mounted to Axis 2 platen. Robotic Positioner is moved through complete range of motion to optimize weld angle via coordinated motion with 6 axis welding robot. Axis 1 and 2 are powered by robot manufacturers preferred servo motors. Robotic Positioner is integrated into robotic motion controller.
SCOPE OF SUPPLY
GÜDEL completed full engineering, design and fabrication of structural framework and used GÜDEL AE090 and AE060 compact servo worm gear reducers for precise motion of the Robotic Positioner.
RESULT
By using GÜDEL as a complete solution for manufacturing the robotic supplier/integrator was able to ensure that the Robotic Positioner met the position accuracy of the specifications as well as met the high load requirements and large offset loading.
