TASK
A leading manufacturer of construction machinery is assembling construction machinery in Belgium for which components will also be produced locally. In the production line for piston rods for large hydraulic cylinders, aluminium palettes weighing in total of up to 1500kg have to be transported. Piston rods in various states of production are on these palettes. The palettes do not only have to be transported, but also placed in intermediate storage to assure an optimal production efficiency. Several operators from various operating panels should have access to the storage to transport the palettes to the tooling machines.
SOLUTION
At a height of 5500mm a 85m long, 72 gauge rail was constructed. A carrier with a built-in telescopic axis that is lowered vertically to take up the palette is mounted on the rail. When the axis is pulled in, it holds the palette inside the carrier. To lift this heavy load an industrial crane was used; the telescopic was implemented with GÜDEL components. As the carrier moves high above the ground, the surface below the horizontal axis can be used as intermediate storage. Due to an extensive visualization, the storage status of the stored palettes can be viewed and the transport commands can be issued from the five operating panels.
SCOPE OF SUPPLY
Complete mechanics for installation size 72; horizontal axis similar to that of a TM-72 Trackmotion Module. The installation of the electronics and the installation were done locally under difficult conditions because production on the tooling machines was continued during the installation an during start up. HMI and production logic were developed and implemented together with the customer.
RESULT
Our customer has a system that is technically up-to-date that meets the requirements of flexibility. It fulfills the most stringent safety standards. The complex operating concept of the multiple operating panels was successfully implemented ; the five operators can operate the system simultaneously. The tight space available can be fully utilized.
