TASK
Automate coating processes of large aero structure sub-assembly utilizing “C.A.O.T.S” (Commercially Available Off The Shelf) technologies.
SOLUTION
“Mirrored” 8-axis z-lift modules integrated w/ Fanuc R2000, 6-axis robot. Concept and integration in partnership between GÜDEL and CTA (Pratt & Whitney Automation).
SCOPE OF SUPPLY
GÜDEL custom 7th & 8th axis (-x-z-lift) Robotic Transport Unit (RTU)/Two-axis module equipped as follows:
- Horizontal x-axis TM module; 60’ OAL ~ 54’ Travel
- 1000 mm/sec velocity (min.)
- x-axis base will be manufactured in five (5) equal sections, each 12’ in length
- Vertical z-axis column; ~ 13’ OA height, 8’ travel
- 600 mm/sec velocity (min.)
- Robot carriage designed for Fanuc R2000iA 165F at full capacity & hazardous package; Max. payload: 3000 lbs.
Standard Equipment Upgrades for Aerospace Coating RTU’s:
- Rails/racks are surface treated to prevent corrosion in humid environment
- Rail/rack surfaces have non-moving protective “Walk On” covers
- Energy chain/cable management sized to accommodate: Paint lines + motor/drive & feedback cables
- Zero-position Alignment pin to allow re-referencing of servo drive axes should re-calibration or motor change be necessary
RESULT
Allows for manufacturing flexibility far into the future. Dramatically improves throughput capability. Improved quality of parts produced, allowing precision variable coating thicknesses to be applied to ‘sensitive’ areas of aerospace parts as required for optimum performance. Manufacturing “showpiece” at worlds largest aerospace manufacturer.
