Parallelkinematic

Good rigidity, zero backlash, excellent mobility and a low net weight

Top-quality joint rods are the key components for parallel-kinematic machines (PKM) and form the basis for good rigidity and precision. GÜDEL's new joint rods, made of pure carbon fibres, were developed in collaboration with the University of Lund and R-Idea, a Swedish specialist company, for use in PKM robotics.

The result of this partnership is a new product that is used not only in parallel kinematics, but also in other fields, such as architecture, vehicle manufacturing, flight simulators and aeronautics

The main advantages resulting from this type of construction are as follows:

  • Zero-backlash joint, even under varied loads, thanks to the ability to set the pre-load force
  • Great mobility with a swivelling range of > ±45°
  • Low net weight because of the light-weight construction (1.4 kg/m for D30 version)
  • Good damping properties with a high degree of stiffness (> 100 N/µm) due to a patented carbon fibre layering process with a carbon fibre content of > 82%
  • A series product in two sizes (D15 and D30) and with lengths of between 200 and 4500 mm
  • Threaded connection connector (M6 or M10) or shrink fit
