Handling, stacking and sorting of tires

Task

Transport, sort and palletize 20,000 tires (260 SKUs) per day.

Sector 1 – Transport tires out of production to the testing machines.
Sector 2 – Transport tires from the testing machines to the sorter.
Sector 3 – Sort and palletize tires.

Solution

A) The tires are transported using modular Güdel tire conveying equipment
B) The tires are sorted using Güdel gantry equipment, incorporating a tire gripper
C) The tires are palletized using Güdel robot equipment, incorporating a tire gripper
D) The entire system is controlled using Güdel material flow computers/machine control systems

Sector 1:
Güdel tire conveying equipment is used between each customer subprocess. This adds up to a total of 850 meters of conveying equipment.

Sector 2:
The sorting storage area operates using the "First In First Out" (FIFO) principle. In the sorter, the tires are sorted into types in an area of 1,300 m2. The flexible tire gripper can handle individual tires or tire stacks up to a diameter of 23". With this system, the tires are delivered to the predefined palletizing zone at the required throughput rate.

Sector 3:
There are three different palletizing stations...
1) Horizontal palletizing up to 20 tires per pallet or 10,000 tires per day
2) Rick-Rack palletizing up to 42 tires per pallet or 5,000 tires per day
3) Vertical palletizing up to 36 tires per pallet or 5,000 tires per day
… the tire gripper was developed especially for Rick-Rack use that provides the greatest possible flexibility without compromising cycle time.
… the correct palletizing variant for the corresponding tire type to be handled, is communicated via the customers system to the control system for the robot.
